Rövid tartalom Not simply a retelling of the Japanese animated series, this manga is co-creator Yoshiyuki Sadamoto´s subtly diverging interpretation - sure to intrigue new and old fans alike - of the Evangelion characters and story.A.D. 2015: Since arriving in the super-technological city of Tokyo-3, 14-year old Shinji Ikari has made a cold reunion with his estranged father Gendo, head of the classified United Nations agency, NERV - who recruited him into piloting NERV´s top-secret weapon, "Evangelion" against the mysterious invaders code-named "Angels." Meanwhile, NERV´s tall, dark and handsome agent Ryoji Kaji has presented Gendo with a very special cargo: a tiny, embryonic object code-named "Adam" - the first human being. But does Kaji know about Gendo´s decision to go ahead with the "dummy plug" system, and what it might mean for Rei, the pilot of Unit-00? Meanwhile, Unit-02 pilot Asuka, living with Shinji and his commander Misato, finds her feelings for either one are mercurial, as she "practices" being a girlfriend with Shinji while her true infatuation is with Kaji, who´s trying to rekindle his old college romance with Misato. Rei later suprises Shinji by inviting him into her dingy apartment and suggesting he tell Gendo his true feelings. Shinji does not suspect that Rei herself has unspoken feelings for Gendo, but any hope of a reconciliation is cut short in a chilling encounter at the site of the empty grave of Yui Ikari, Shinji´s mother, where Gendo tells Shinji he´s old enough not to need parents. Meanwhile, it has become clear to NERV´s senior officers that Kaji is actually a double agent also working for the Japanese Ministry of the Interior. After the spy reveals to both Shinji and Misato the sub-basement hangar where NERV keeps the now monstrously-grown (yet incomplete) Adam, Kaji reveals to Shinji privately that Gendo and NERV´s erstwhile masters, the obscure society SEELE, have had long foreknowledge of events through hermetic prophecies from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Kaji prompts Shinji to remember that as a small boy, he witnessed his mother´s horrific disappearance during the creation of the Eva Unit - her invention, not Gendo´s... What was her "Adam Project," and why, on Gendo´s orders, has Rei just thrust the gargantuan relic known as the "Spear of Longinus" into Adam´s crucified form, its face covered by the sigil of SEELE?
